The Chetworth Park Committee has been meeting to help the city decide how to improve our multi use pocket park. If you wish to be involved, come to meetings and or send e-mail to tmw@his.com, requesting to be added to Park mail list.

- At issue are:
-- safety of users of park from dogs
-- safety of neighbors and users of park from health hazards from dog urine, feces and dust.
-- replacement of toddler equipment.
-- need for more open space for recreational and areas for dog walker use.
-- Need for an automated watering system
-- Need for a Park guide/handbook for users of park so users understand proper /improper uses. So new users know the history of park and can learn appropriate behavior.

The committee has met four times (Thursdays at 7 PM).
We are scheduleed to meet next Thursday 7 PM but also hope to hold next meeting at parent friendly time (to be determined).

I have sent in e-mail notes of this meeting and here are some history.

The committee hopes to find consensus solutions that everyone can live with.

Immediate items at hand:

Please e-mail me (tmw@his.com) your comments by Wednesday:
Please use 'NECA Chetworth Park' in subject line.

 A- Proposed fence improvement:
- Modify so toddlers have direct access to toddler area, without having to pass through common area of park (to avoid aggressive dogs and dog urine and residue feces).

Question:
Is this a fix to safe access issue?
If so Is location appropriate?
Is added 15 ft square to Toddler area useful?

- Replace existing 3 foot cyclone fence between open park and toddler area with 4 foot cyclone fence to assist dog owner in the control of their pets.

Question:
Is this a fix to control / security issue?
Does fence line need to be relocated?
How high is high enough and how high is too high?
If a dog is 'Under Control', why is higher fence needed?
Does 12 inches really make a difference?
Note the 3 foot fence height was determined before as a test for 'Under Control'.
Jumping fence is a clear inarguable indication a dog is not an appropriate user of our multiuse pocket park. Dogs that jump fence need behavior lessons and or anti-jump harness.
This fence height can be a tool to help dog users of park protect access.

 B- Toddler Equipment replacement:
- The City and parents of our neighborhood want to replace equipment with modern 'safer' equipment. The Baby committee members need to meet with city this week to get some ideas as what is possible.

Question:
What equipment and its '20 foot (?) safety ring' fits ?
Is equipment appropriate for toddlers.
Note: Previously it was agreed that pocket park was too small to host any fixed equipment for any but toddler. Since most families moved as eldest child was school age the need for other equipment would have to be born by other parks. [This also had benefit of reducing need to deal with issues of unsupervised children and late night activities in park]
