Manager of Systems Operations

n     Lead team of six full-time, and four consultant workers to manage all voice, data, and audiovisual infrastructure for company which manages multi-billion dollar fund for the federal government. 

n     Managed managed co-hosting facility contract and operations as well as vendor/contractor locations, telecommunications and phone systems, and multiple office locations.

n     Initiated change management system for all infrastructure changes.  Sat on project management office, technology adoption, and security steering committees.

n     Managed office move, including server room build out, including cooling, cabling, UPS rack infrastructure, and telecom.  Managed subsequent build outs to new floors.

n     Worked with outside vendor to produce disaster recovery plan; directed team in building recovery solution and scripts; tested the plan at the contracted hotsite.

n     Worked with small staff to move company to Active Directory and Exchange 2003; to migrate data to a SAN and NAS, and to virtualize and consolidate servers, all allowing the company greater uptime, and saving money.

n     Prepared infrastructure budget, and consulted on many aspects of overall IT budget.  Made many large procurements and purchases.

n     Responded to multiple, regular audits. 

n     Worked with a managed security service provider on implementing new firewall rulesets, and network and host intrusion detection strategy.  Played integral role with security team in incident management, network STEs and scans.  Implemented SecureComputing PremierAccess, reverse proxy arrangements for public applications; Citrix secure gateway and Cisco identity management system.

n     Directed team in the implementation of major projects such as Documentum implementation for document lifecycle management; KVS EVault for e-mail management; E-cert, an application using Oblix providing a front-end to USAC’s forms application process; Actuate enterprise reporting; Primavera project management; as well as in-sourcing the company’s integrated Accounting, Billing, Disbursements, Collections, systems.

n     Planned and worked with team to implement separate development and testing environments.

n     Implemented an automated desktop and server management environment, including Altiris client management suite, automating software delivery, inventory, workstation imaging, and helpdesk ticketing.  Implemented Altiris server management suite, including point in time recovery, server imaging, alerting (alongside GFi alerting software.)

n     Managed Citrix Metaframe upgrade.

n     Hired all but two of the current team.  Managed desktop support, systems engineers, database administrators.

n     Built and maintained service level agreements and infrastructure metrics.

n     Managed applications administrator and IT Specialists.

n     Network engineer  supporting a four-location NT WAN, running backup Active Directory for NFO North America.

n     Maintained connections and supported HR’s used of parent company, IPG’s PeopleSoft applications.

n     Administer Cisco PIX 6.2 firewall, with multiple PIX and VPN connections for users in other NFO companies using our WAN.

n     Support Cisco switches and routers, and Ascend routers.

n     Administer Nortel Contivity 1500 VPN with branch office connections (Contivity 100.)

n     Work with Network Manager preparing Windows 2000 AD upgrade.

Sept. 2000 – Nov. 2001     CODEON Corporation      Columbia, MD

IT Specialist (Network Engineer, Helpdesk Manager, reported to IT Director)

n     Built ERP system with Agile, Datasweep, and Oracle applications; Symmetrix SAN, and Brocade and Cisco switching with IT Director and consultant team of two to support optical components manufacturing firm. Performed migration to Windows 2000 AD with one contractor.

n     Initially, planned and built new infrastructure and phone system as sole IT employee for new clean room manufacturing building, including a new server room, and connecting the engineering and manufacturing buildings in small campus environment. 

n     Provided desktop support and help desk for 170-computer LAN.  Specified, configured, and repaired desktops and laptops. 

n     Administered Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition v. 6.7, with Exchange and Norton Antivirus for Firewalls.

n     Administered NetBackup Professional backups with StorageTek 180. Performed BackupExec backups.  Exposure to EMC & Brocade switches.

n     Supported RAS and RSA SecureID cards.

n     Administered Lucent Magix and Merlin Messaging.

Dec. 1997 – Sept. 2000     Pathnet, Inc. Washington, DC; Reston, VA

Network Administrator (reported to Network Manager)

n     Served as network administrator in NT 4.0 and Exchange 5.5 for wide area network for telecommunications startup in Washington, Dallas, and Kansas. 

n     Served as Exchange administrator for two site organization.  Migrated from Post.Office and set up Dallas Exchange Site.

n     Migrated domains to accommodate new location; participated in new building infrastructure planning, tying together phone systems. 

n     Administered antivirus effort using Network Associates Enterprise Networking Tools:  Netshield, VirusScan, GroupShield Exchange.

n     Performed backups using Veritas BackupExec.  Used offsite Storage.

n     Monitored circuits through Cisco routers’ logs.  Performed basic Cisco configuration for T1 and frame relay networks.  Evaluated and selected carriers and services.  Good exposure to telecom industry. (Pathnet was a CLEC that sold circuits and interconnects.)

n     Responsible for all client/server and enterprise-wide software, including ADP HR Perspectives; SalesLogix; MAS90 with FRX and FAS (accounting); stock option software (CMS); SEC software, Edgar and EdgarEase; LERG & LattisPro (Telecom); Remedy and Innovate's HelpDesk (trouble-ticketing and help desk).

n     Supported RRAS, NAT, and many remote, traveling, and home users.

n     Planned, implemented, and maintained NorTel Modular ICS phone systems, voice PRI, T1s, DIDs, and frame relay as telecom manager.  Worked with voice requirements for 24 x 7 Network Operations Center. Performed cross-connects.

n     Maintained public Web site, http://www.pathnet.net/.  Hosted and published Website using IIS.

n     Gained extensive help desk experience, first as only help desk person for Texas and DC, then as level 2 help desk to LAN technicians in DC and in Texas.
