Gayle Ayers Elam, Ph.D. About Me

The Elam Family I live in the Seattle area with my husband and our two children.	Food Allergy Awareness & Education I am raising awareness of food allergies in our community. My daughter has a severe peanut allergy, and many other children and adults also suffer from life-threatening food allergies. Our family participated in FAAN's 2008 Walk for Food Allergy in Seattle, and I give training presentations.	Emergency Preparedness It can take 3+ days for 9-1-1 emergency responders to arrive after a disaster! Make time to "Prepare in a Year". Also, CERT classes teach lifesaving skills to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors (extinguishing small fires, light search & rescue, basic medical treatment).

Some of my favorite movies:

• "Chihuly in the Hotshop" (documentary film of a reunion of Tacoma, WA glass artist Dale Chihuly and past teams recreating thirteen of his favorite series)
• "Charmed" (the 7-season TV series of sisters who are witches)

Some of my favorite music:

• Folk (Christine Lavin, Sally Fingerett, etc. - wonderful concerts!)
• Celtic (esp. The House Band, Patrick Street, Capercaille - wonderful concerts!)
• Cajun (Beausoleil, File Gumbo)
• Classical (Bach, Beethoven, Clementi Sonatinas for the Piano)
• Billy Joel (a favorite since my childhood - and I went to a concert during grad school!)
• Eric Ode (music and poetry for kids and families)
