Alice-Marie works in varied media and often surprises her viewers with the combinations in her pieces that can include oil, acrylic, watercolor, collage and printmaking techniques. A writer from the Capital Hill Rag once described her work as “sophisticated, intricate, and diverse.” She has a Masters degree in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University and worked for twenty years in corporate communications creating films and videos. She began a second career in fine arts. “After several years of recording reality with film and video, it is no wonder I now have a passion for abstraction or maybe better stated, distraction.” says Gravely. “The use of variety of media and materials in my work reflects the perplexity of today’s society with its diversions and intrusions.” She adds. Gravely’s work was featured in the winter issue of Watercolor magazine, published by American Artists last December. She is a member of numerous area arts organizations including A Salon and the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo and has shown work in many group exhibitions. She has had solo exhibitions at local libraries, businesses, and restaurants. Her work has also been exhibited at the National Arts Club in New York and at the SVC Gallery on Nantucket.
