Welcome to Variable Mentoring.
This web site was designed to assist fifth grade students in
identifying and controlling variables in a science investigation.

The Maryland Learning Outcome for fifth grade science
addressed is:

"4. Recognize well-designed procedures that identify important
variables within an investigation."

Objectives:

1. Given a set of variables from a science investigation, the individual will identify and select the independent (manipulated) variable at a rate of 70% or 7 out of 10 times.

2. Given a set of variables from a science investigation, the individual will identify and select the dependent (responding) variable at a rate of 60% or 3 out of 5 times.

3. Given a set of variables from a science investigation, the individual will identify and match the variables needing control with the control method at an accuracy level of 70% or 7 out of 10 times.

4. Given a set of science, math, critical thinking or MSPAP vocabulary, the individual will select the correct definition from a set of four options 75% of the time. Three out of a every set of four definitions will be correct.

The linked Blackboard site has a set of quizzes which are completed and scored online . The individual is given the correct answer and feedback. Each quiz may be taken any number of times.
