Another young girl, carrying a child on her back, in the same village. Traditional homes in the background. This is a largely Brahmin village, low lying near the river where a run-of-the-river hydroproject is planned. Resettlement will not be from a large reservoir but from construction camps and other work sites associated with the project. Low lying flat lands useful for these purposes tend to be valuable rice fields. On the other hand, the access road has already brought new opportunities for dairy, vegetables and other produce that previously had no ready market. The village is connected with nearby towns in the Terai and hills and with Kathmandu by weekly bus, which carries the new produce to market.
