Many land-owning households were left with less land after reservoir submersion. The resettlement agency initiated an extensive tube well program to raise productivity on their remaining land. This was also in addition to individual household economic rehabilitation schemes. The project reservoir was for urban drinking water and electricity and had no irrigation command area, so the option of offering newly irrigated land in a command area was not an option. In irrigation projects, command area relocation is offered as a way in which those displaced by the project can also become beneficiaries. Pictured here are resettlement agency officials next to a newly functioning tube well.
