Tod Ragsdale carried out World Bank financed reconnaissance studies for Morrison Knutsen Engineering Company on the potential resettlement and social issues of the Upper Arun Hydro Power Project in Eastern Nepal and the Pancheswar Hydro Power Project in Far Western Nepal, on the Indian border. Pictured here is a helicopter at the proposed Upper Arun dam site, near the Tibetan border. However, detailed studies required a couple of weeks' minimum trekking through roadless areas in both projects as well as extensive background research using primary and secondary source materials on the indigenous peoples, a mix of caste and tribal populations. Ragsdale also reviewed the World Bank pre-feasibility studies carried out by Bechtel Corporation for the Karnali Chisopani Project in Mid West Nepal, including review of past experience in Nepal at the World Bank financed Marsyangdi and Kulekani power projects. He co-authored a World Bank working paper with Augusta Molnar on land acquisition proceedures and resettlement in Nepal (1992).
