Political Wall Painting, Kathmandu, Nepal, "If Everybody Want to Be Free, Please Vote for Moon and Stars." This wall painting is from Nepal's first democratic elections in 1990-91, following major disturbances throughout the Kingdom which brought about a greatly restricted monarchy and have let to considerable political instability during the early years of democracy. There have been implications for Nepal's hydro development, as has been the case with the scrapping of a 2015 MW power plant being built by Enron Corporation by Maharashtra's new government in August 1995 in Western India (currently being renegotiated). While not as directly linked to the domestic political situation, Government irresolution may have played a role in the World Bank's August 1995 to withdraw financial support from Nepal's US$1 billion Arun project.
