actual time news

November 2009:

Wow--ancient history here, both the band and the html. _actual time_ is on a pretty much eternal hiatus, as new kids and new jobs and other things have soaked up all our time. We're still on MySpace at myspace.com/actualtime/ --come visit us there.

I have also uploaded zip files of all three EPs in vbr mp3s to this site. You can download them for free at the links below. Don't change the files or remove our name from them, but feel free to pass them around.

Thanks to everyone who supported our music over the last ten years, from Neil Kernon to David Fiuczynski to Ron Jarzombek of Watchtower to everyone who checked us out back in the day on mp3.com to everyone who bought the "force of patterns" EP on CDbaby or iTunes. You rule!

December 2006:

_actual time_ is on MySpace--check us out at myspace.com/actualtime/. Come be our friend!

October 2006:
The new EP is out!

The new, long-awaited _actual time_ EP "force of patterns" is now out! Featuring seven new instrumental prog/math/metal/??? songs.

Our plans for a pro-duplicated CD with a fancy cover fell apart, so we've released the EP as a digital-distrubtion only title through CD Baby. That means the EP will only be available as a digital download from over two dozen digital music services like iTunes and Napster and Emusic (click here for the full list of digital music sites that will be carrying "force of patterns").

As of Oct. 15, iTunes has "force of patterns" ready for download. All the other digital distro stores should have it within the next 4-6 weeks.

We currently do not have any plans to release the EP on CD or CD-R. The time and expense is just too much for the limited demand. We will still offer the older EPs on CD-R. If the downloads of "force of patterns" do well, maybe we'll release "time frame" through those digital music sites too. And we hope to put the first "actual time" EP up on this site for free download.

So head over to your favoriate digital music site and download the new _actual time_ EP, "force of patterns"!

June 2006:
Holy crap--a new update!

It has been a while. Don't worry, we are all still alive. But our original grandiose release plans for "force of patterns" have changed a bit. We are currently working on setting up a digital distribution of the EP through iTunes and the like. Check back for another update on that in the next couple months.

Thanks for the continued e-mails asking about the new record, and the continued orders for "time frame" and "actual time." Both are still available, in case you need something to stack under a table leg that's a little short.

January 2005: Lots of news to report!

The new domain actual-time.com is online. We are also planning a totally new web design for the release of the new EP.

The mixes for the third _actual time_ EP are finished. The record will be called "force of patterns." Here's a track listing:

    1. holes
    2. there and back
    3. stutter
    4. scritch
    5. churn
    6. seven west forever
    7. perfunctory shit

We're working on the artwork for the EP, which will be done by a pro graphic artist buddy of ours. To tide you over until the CD is ready, click on "holes" to download an mp3 of that full track.

Check back here at actual-time.com for updates as we finally get close to having the CD out. Thanks again for everyone's support.

October 2004: The mixes for the still-untitled _actual time_ iii are almost done. We've got final mixes for six of the seven tunes, and a rough of the last one. We've still go

The mixes for the still-untitled _actual time_ iii are almost done. We've got final mixes for six of the seven tunes, and a rough of the last one. We've still got to figure out a record cover and packaging, but we're getting real close to having this third EP ready for release. Check back with this page for more updates.

And, in a bit of an October surprise, we've started writing new tunes for _actual time_ iv. Since actual time has always been about experimentation, we're going to experiment with trying to get an EP done in _less_ than three years. Who knew?

March 2004: All the tracking for _actual time_ iii is done! Scott finished all the guitars last month, and we've made arrangements to have our pro audio buddy Greg mix the record again -- he mixed "time frame" for us three years ago. It may take a while, but Greg always does a great job. We've also got to figure out song titles and a record cover, so we're probably looking at a late summer release, but things are moving along. Check back on this page for more updates.

As most of you probably know, mp3.com shut down their band hosting last fall, so http://www.mp3.com/actualtime/ has vanished into the past. We are considering a few other commercial hosting sites, but in the meantime all of the song mp3's that were available on mp3.com have been added to the recordings page of this site. Check back for more mp3's; maybe we'll even add a rough mix of one of the new tunes!

December 2003: the recording of all the guitars for the as-yet untitled actual time iii is underway in Scott's meager home studio. Partial tracks for 3 of the 7 tunes have been laid down, and we hope to have all the tracking done by January.

After that, we'll only have to talk one of our friends into mixing the record and another into drawing the cover, and then we can get this third EP out to the billions of actual time fans solar system-wide who are waiting with baited breath. Hang in there, it's coming!

July 2003: we recorded the drums and bass tracks for actual time iii at the same project studio where we did the first two EPs. We had a blast and it went really well, and all that's left is for Scott to record the guitars.

We sent a copy of "time frame" to Fuzelicious Morsels, the record label of fusion master David Fiuczynski, after Scott bought one of his guitars. Check out their comments on our reviews page.

June 2003: the recording for actual time iii is moving ahead. We're set to record drums and bass for our seven new tunes in July at the same project studio where we did the first two EPs, and then Scott will record all the guitars himself, so the CD will hopefully be done sometime this fall. Stay tuned to this page or the actual time E-Mail Lists for updates.

We're on the radio in Australia! Check out Screaming Symphony, Australia's only dedicated Progressive and Power Metal Radio Program. Listen to their live Web-cast every Tuesday night 10-Midnight Australian EST.

April 2003: Daniel Rubio López from Progressive Disease Radio in Spain interviewed Scott last month about actual time's music and songwriting. We've posted the original English version, or you can read Daniel's Spanish translation.

We're still moving ahead on the seven new tunes for actual time iii, using the studio where we did the last two EPs and some home studio work. We hope to get the basics down by mid-summer and have it out by the fall sometime.

The sound files on this website have also been moved to a new server, including all the ones that used to be available on mp3.com before they cut back to only three songs. We also restored the old Real Audio clips of the first EP, since lots of people E-mailed about that.

January 2003: "time frame" is still available and continues to sell slowly to fans of wierd, instrumental prog/metal around the world. We gave a copy to Ron Jarzombek of Spastic Ink / WatchTower -- check out his comments on our reviews page.

Also, we've just finished writing seven new tunes for actual time iii. We hope to enter the studio in March. The music is still rhythmically complex, but we've worked hard to develop the melodic and chordal ideas, kind of like the song "Out There (Prime)" from "time frame".

June 2002: another full track from our second CD actual time "time frame" is now up on the actual time page at mp3.com
. Check it out!

Also, a new review of the "time frame" CD from The End Times is now up on our reviews page.

April 2002: our second CD actual time "time frame" is now also available through two great Internet stores for progressive and heavy music! Both Laser's Edge and Wayside Music (the store for Cuneiform Records) are carrying "time frame."

The CD is also still available by mail order through the band (check our recordings page for details), but if you're ordering from either of these fine merchants, snag a copy of "time frame"too to support these guys and support us. Thanks!

February 2002: our second CD actual time "time frame" has been released! The CD is available by mail order through the band - check our recordings page for details.

The new material is still heavy and insanely syncopated, but with more melody and groove. Song titles include "swagger," "iterative refinement," and "brutally detailed." Two full tracks, "down" and "out there (prime)", are on the actual time page at mp3.com.
