Community Policing Task Force News

On the evening of January 30, 2001, Community Police Officers Gerald Ford and Jim Klock accompanied residents on a two-hour walk through the Northeast neighborhood. This was the second community walk sponsored by the newly formed Community Policing Task Force, chaired by Claire Whitney. Like the first walk in December, this event revealed a number of conditions that may help create an environment in which crime can occur.

On these two walks, the group found code violations including abandoned appliances and furniture, property in disrepair, trash, street lights out, areas of poor lighting, graffiti, and more. Residents, police, Code Enforcement and other agencies are working cooperatively to eliminate these conditions.

Every Northeast resident can help by noticing and reporting code violations, street lights out, nuisance activity and any kind of suspicious activity. More information will be available in Association meetings and this newsletter. Another walk will be scheduled for April. Meanwhile, see the Links & Resources for guidance in reporting various problems.
