They are currently trying to receive licenses and are hoping to use the callsigns 3B8/IZ2DPX and 3B8/IZ7ATN. Activity will be on 40/20/17/15/12/10 meters SSB. QSL 3B8/IZ2DPX via the bureau to IZ2DPX or direct to his QSL Manager IK2DUW. QSL 3B8/IZ7ATN via his QSL Manager IZ0CKJ.

This activity is to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the YUCW Club in the State Union of Serbia And Montenegro (SUSAM).

4U1UN, UNITED NATIONS HQ. Be advised that there was a short 90 minute unexpected operation this past week (between March 1-2nd) from Seppo/OH1VR and John/W2ID. Another short operation is expected to take place once again on March 7th or 8th, possibly around 1500-1600z. QSL via HB9BOU.

DX0, SPRATLY ISLANDS. Eddie, DU1EV, informs OPDX that Gil, 4F2KWT, has returned to the Philippine mainland. Operations from DX0K will resume the middle of March (around March 15th). They are expecting three operators during the next activation: DU1EV (Eddie), 4F2KWT (Gil) and 4F1OZ (Ed). Operation shall be from the same location, Pag-Asa Island of the Kalayaan Island Group of Palawan Province, Philippines. For more details and pictures please visit the Web page at: http://www.geocities.com/f2kwt/.

FT5W, CROZET ISLAND (Update/Request). Jean Paul, F5BU, now signing FT5WJ, reports that he is on most days on 14278 kHz from 1615-1830z (also sometime before dinner from 1400-1515z), and he hears many stations calling him. However, Jean Paul states too many stations (who can barely hear him) are calling and he is wasting too much time calling them. His time is very limited, and he requests that stations that can hear him good enough only call him.

FT5X, KERGUELEN ISLAND. There's a little over a week to go before the "Microlite Penguins DXpedition Team" will activate Kerguelen Islands (IOTA AF-048, DIFO FT-011). This is the same organization that activated South Georgia (VP8GEO) and South Sandwich Islands (VP8THU) in 2002. The multi-national team of twelve highly experienced operators from France, Ireland, Switzerland, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and the United States will operate on the HF bands between March 15th and April 2nd. James Brooks, 9V1YC, DXpedition Team Leader states, "This DXpedition is funded entirely by the twelve team members and a generous and exclusive grant by the Northern California DX Foundation. There are no other club, foundation, individual, manufacturer or QSL sponsors." We are expecting more details to be released for next week.

IOTA NEWS.....................

KH7K, KURE ISLAND. The following press release was made public on March 1st: We are pleased to announce a DXpedition to Kure Atoll, at the extreme northwestern end of the Hawaiian Islands, during Sep-Oct, 2005. The callsign for the operation will be K7C. Kure is currently #10 on DX-Magazine's Most-Wanted List, and #1 on the German DX Foundation's list. The radio team includes Bob/KK6EK (Expedition Leader), Garry/NI6T (co-organizer), Alan/AD6E (co-organizer), Mike/N6MZ, Ward/N0AX, John/N7CQQ, Charlie/W6KK, Franz/DJ9ZB, Max/I8NHJ, Alan/K6SRZ (Expedition doctor), and Kathryn K6DZL (Educational program), plus two more radio operators to be selected. The team will be QRV with four stations on all bands/modes, including 6m and RTTY. In addition to the radio operations, the group is developing an innovative real-time interactive web-satellite-based system called 'DXA'. This system will enable the DXer to see and interact with activities of the operation as they happen using any web browser. The group also will be carrying out several scientific projects in collaboration with naturalists on the atoll to help restore and protect its fragile ecosystem. Finally, the group is developing an educational program that will utilize the DXA resource to enable students to learn from and interact with the onsite team. The project is being strongly supported by ICOM and the Pacific DX Group (Kimo KH7U and Patrick NH6UY). The team and project will be visible at Visalia and Dayton. QSL Manager is Tom, N4XP, Trustee of the Dudleys DXers of NorthEast Georgia (K4TSJ), Box 1, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The team welcomes comments and suggestions, pilots, programmers, and contributions. The project is being managed by Cordell Expeditions, a nonprofit research organization with a 25-year history of successful expeditions to remote oceanic sites. For more information, please E-mail info@cordell.org (use "Kure7Cordell" in the Subject line) or any member listed above, and look at the full description on www.cordell.org (click on the 2005 Kure Expedition link). KH8, SWAINS ISLAND (Update). Members of the American Samoa Amateur Radio Association (ASARA) are finally active as KH8SI from Swains Island (IOTA OC-200) after a departure delay by cyclones, rough seas and trying to find a calm place to land. Operators departed at 2200z Thursday, March 3rd, aboard the ship "Tasman Explorer". It would seem the first station came on the air early Sunday, March 6th. As this was being written (around 1400z), the activity was on 40 meters CW and 20 meters SSB. The update on the ASARS Web page stated that at 11:00z, March 6th, more stations would be set up at sunrise and should be active on all HF bands. However, operator Dianna/KB6NAN has not landed with the team and is suffering from severe seasickness. So the 6 meter activity is on hold at the moment. QSL Manager is VE3HO: Garth Allistair Hamilton, P. O. Box 1156, FONTHILL, ON L0S 1E0, CANADA. For more details, maps and pictures, visit the following Web page: http://www.swains-island.org/

OH0, ALAND ISLAND. Ari, OH5DX (ex-OH1EH), will be active as OH0Z from March 18-20th. Activity will be CW/SSB on all bands, including an effort in the Russian DX Contest (see below). QSL via OH5DX. Check out the following Web page at: http://www.qsl.net/oh0z/.

OOOPPPSSS DEPARTMENT. In OPDX.699, under the header "FP, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON", we listed the IOTA as NA-132; this is incorrect and should have been NA-032.

So the team now has to use a non-Navy ship for their whole journey to Glorioso. This is now an added cost for the operators which they will have to pay out their pocket.
