LOGE LIZARD is an opera critic. The character is based on the pseudonym I use when I write opera reviews for parterre box, the queer opera zine (see Links). I guess he embodies all the ambivalence I feel about critics. Having worked for several performing arts organizations over the years, I know how narrow the opinions of one self-appointed (or newspaper-appointed) savant can seem, how much potential for damage a review can have and how unjust the whole system of critics reviewing artists with little room for dialogue can seem. On the other hand, I love reading well-informed criticism and just adore having strong opinions myself, expressing them as entertainingly as I can, and imagining that anyone is paying attention.

So Loge Lizard is both my contempt for and my admiration of critics and criticism. He's a cold reptile who is quite taken with himself. He's different from some of my other characters in that he's fully clothed (shocking, I know!). He goes somewhat beyond the Satyr in being of morph of human and animal characteristics.
