Miki is a Japanese Bobtail who grew up in Japan and Butterball is a flame point Himalayan. Miki moved in with Butterball a few years ago and she quickly showed him who was boss. Butterball had never learned how to fight and Miki had a tough life in Japan - one time she killed a dog who had attacked her by breaking a fang off in it's head. We think the only thing that saved Butterball until he learned how to defend himself was his long fur. Miki would have him pinned down by the throat with his legs kicking but would have to let go with a mouth full of fur. They get along fine now - Miki will clean Butterball's fur but she won't let him clean her.
Update for 12/23/99 - Poor Butterball passed away in the Spring of '97 we think from a bad heart. That Spring we got Amos; actually I picked up Amos the same day I took Butterball to the vets to be - well you know - he was very sick. Amos is a good cat but he is nuts - and on Prozac (really - it costs about $40 a month). In the Spring '98 we got Duchess - a gray long hair. Miki is still with us and every time we let her out she goes right up the hill to sit on Butterball's grave for at least 15 minutes and then moves on. After nearly three years she still knows where he is and misses him. Well - Miki passed away late August 2005 in the back yard enjoying the grass and sunshine. She rests between Butterball and Amos. A few weeks later we got an oriental shorthair named Peace
In the Fall of 2008 we brought a feral Tom Cat (who was a good father to his cat family) living at the beach house community back to our house. We called him "Pumpkin" because his head was so big - well he must have been malnurished because he went from 10 lbs. to 17 lbs. within a month. But for being a feral Tom Cat - he's one of the sweetest cats we've ever had.
