Horn Speaker & Tube Audio Page

This is a picture of my old system; Van Alstein modified ST-120, Dyna ST-35 conversion (with quilted maple front panel) from an SCA-35, Adcom tuner/preamp, Carver 24db/octave cross-over, and an AH tube CD player.

This is my Fisher 400 tube receiver that was modified to use EL-34 tubes and totally updated (all diodes and many caps replaced).  An excellent system with a hand-made African Mahogany case.

Current Setup

This is the latest picture of my system (06/25/03).  Top left is the headphone amp that I built.  Middle left is the totally redesigned Dynaco PAS-3X (with two stepped attenuators, grayhill switches, and my own circuit redesigns). Bottom left is a NAD tuner.  Right (top and middle) Dynaco ST-35 circuit (with circuit tweaks) amps made from SCA-35s.  Bottom right is an AH! tube CD player (based on a Marantz shell).

Speakers

These are excellent sounding horns!  They are 350 Hz Tractrix horns that I  hand-made from laminated Alder, Basswood, Paulownia, and mineral stained (naturally) Poplar.  I finished these up Sept. 11th - I couldn't emotionally watch the news anymore, so I went out to the garage and finished them up - and then I could watch the F-15s doing Combat Air Patrols over the DC area.  The drivers are Altec 292s with an JBL 2330 spacer.

Here's a couple shots of my speakers - one with my Japanese cat, Miki.  The Bass speakers are a Jensen Ultraflex design that I built with a slightly reduced (90 square inches vs. 120 square inches) port area to give the boxes a slightly higher resonant frequency than the JBL 2205's 30 Hz.
