Then and Now (Part 2)


This page has a photo of the etching of the Beurs/Bourse/Exchange on the Dam (again the curvature & reflection shows that I shot it too close) and then a modern view of the Rokin, from pretty much the same vantage, facing the former location of the Beurs.

Among the changes: the Rokin has been filled in much of the way to the Dam. The tram is coming around a curve where the bridge was in the photo. The construction for the new metro (subway) line blocks the view of what is left of the Rokin. The building at center-right with the red sun-shades and the sign that says Rondvaa[rt] abuts a dock for sightseeing boats & houses a ticket office for the tours.

There is a house on the right - almost obscured by the construction shed - that seems to be in the etching too. Some things survive.
