Work Experience:

Senior Systems Engineer/Savant Product Specialist.

• Provided pre- and post-sales support for a variety of Oracle-based products, including Precise/Savant, Precise/Indepth for Oracle (previously: Precise/SQL), and DBTuner, an EMC-based superset of Precise/Indepth. Created training and installation documents, provided telephone and onsite support, and worked trade show booths in both the U.S. and abroad.
• Assisted junior SE's with the installation of Oracle on a variety of systems, including laptop computers, Network Appliance storage devices, UNIX servers and Windows NT/2000 servers.
• Developed product presentations to be used for online and Powerpoint slide shows. Produced technical reference documentation detailing known issues and solutions for a variety of products and server platforms, reducing the need for onsite or online technical support.

Managing Technical Consultant.

• Installing, configuring and tuning Oracle7/8 databases for both in-house and client-site operations.
• Training client DBAs and junior staff members in the installation and operation of Oracle, methods of performing backup and recovery, tuning, reorganizing and troubleshooting.
• Developing SQL procedures and UNIX scripts for the maintenance of production and test databases.
• Present workshops on database techniques and tips at Deltek's annual International User Conference.
• Assist members of the software development teams in providing database resources; configuring servers, building properly sized database instances, importing database dumps from foreign systems, and providing post-import cleanup procedures.
• Providing pre-sales technical support to prospective clients, assisting in choosing the proper technical solutions for their needs.

System Administrator.

• Provided access to, and security for, a multiuser financial system managing a $250 million-per-year federal contract.
• Duties included scheduling and executing backup and restore functions, creating a disaster recovery plan, creating and maintaining user IDs and passwords, coordinating workflow between departments, installing and troubleshooting personal computers for system access, writing UNIX shell scripts to simplify routine operations and to fulfill client requests.
• Conducted bi-weekly working group meetings to ensure cooperation between functional areas, and to obtain agreement on operational issues.
• Was one of a staff of twelve responsible for the developing, implementing, and operation of the entire corporate MIS functions for a 2,200 employee firm with revenues of over $200 million per year.
• Conducted training sessions for staff members on system internals and utilities, with an eye toward developing more efficiency and productivity.

Developer/Consultant.

• Was one of a staff of twelve responsible for the developing, implementing, and operation of the entire corporate MIS functions for ATI, which, prior to its merger with PRC, was a 2200-employee firm with revenues of over $200 million per year. In addition to programming and interacting with the user community, conducted training sessions for staff members on system internals and utilities, with an eye toward even more efficiency and productivity.

Programmer/Analyst.

• Team member developing the Letter of Credit Control System (LOCCS) for the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a nationally automated system for distributing funds to federally subsidized housing developments through the Department of Treasury's Automated Clearing House. Led a six member team of developers in creating and implementing a PC-based personnel tracking system for the Office of Finance and Accounting, U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Programmer/Customer Support Specialist.

• Evaluated and tested EasyLink system (now owned by AT&T), created billing support programs, researched and assisted customer queries relating to message content, delivery and pricing. Was the customer Point of Contact for the entire U. S. Midwestern region.

Since 1988 I have performed a number of free or low-cost consulting services to local businesses and organizations. From 1992 through 1994 I was a member of the Reston, VA. Chamber of Commerce.
