Related Experience and Qualifications Summary:
Gary M. Pageau
Mr. Pageau has over 25 years experience in the development of sterile medical
products (Johnson and Johnson's Ethicon subsidiary) and hospital diagnostic
equipment (General Electric's Medical Systems unit) and has spent the past
15 years developing and implementing new and innovative ionizing radiation
sterilization methods and practices. These recent activities included irradiation
sterilization equipment operation and performance specification, process
design, equipment fabrication, software design, construction, process validation,
commissioning and operation. Mr. Pageau is a specialist in the sterilization
of medical devices in their final package and has also been
involved in market analysis and feasibility studies for hazardous waste
sterilization and food irradiation applications over the past 15 years.
Mr. Pageau founded IOTECH, Inc. in 1981 which successfully pioneered the
use of cesium-137 as a domestic alternative to cobalt-60. These activities
involved obtaining formal approval from FDA and NRC licensing. In addition,
the effort involved lengthy negotiations for the largest lease ever signed
by the US DoE. He sold IOTECH to CH2M HILL in 1983 and remained as General
Manager where he managed the design, construction and operation of the world's
first commercial cesium-137 irradiator until 1991. During this period he
managed an effort to develop machine based alternatives to gamma irradiation
for medical products, hazardous and toxic wastes and food
disinfestation and preservation. This development effort involved evaluation
of existing and emerging electron accelerator equipment and technologies
throughout the free world. He co-authored a number of papers and presented
formal papers at leading industry conferences on accelerator based irradiator
systems (direct electrons and X-rays).
In 1991, he founded Intelligent Operating Technologies, Inc. (IOtech) to
pursue development of machine based irradiation systems. Mr. Pageau and
his IOtech team were retained by The Titan Corporation in 1991 to develop
the process specifications, and provide concept and preliminary designs
for a medical product sterilization system based on Titan's 10 MeV accelerator.
Activities in this effort included selection of the project team members
(engineer, contractor, material handling and software vendors). Upon completion
of these activities, Mr. Pageau joined Titan as general manager of their
new Titan Scan division to manage the construction, start-up and
operation of this unique contact sterilization facility.
He remained with Titan Scan until re-opening his IOtech consultancy business
in January of this year. Mr. Pageau serves on industry standards committees
and is an invited speaker at major association meetings. He has co-authored
a number of publications on accelerator based irradiator systems and process
applications. As an independent consultant, he works with both manufacturers
and users to assist in implementation of irradiation sterilization projects
around the world.
