The Lazarus Foundation is a nonprofit organization that recycles obsolete, outdated and broken computers and gives them new life by donating them to those can and will use them the most. Our association with the Washington Area Wheelchair Society came about because of an article that appeared in the Washington Post in June of 1992. Don Bard, our Special Project Coordinator, contacted the society and saw the need they had for experienced help in getting the hundreds of computers and peripherals tested and working.
Not only are we active in the Baltimore/Washington DC area, but Don is now working with Federal agencies to start similar projects nationwide. You can be a part of the excitement by joining us for our on-going workshops, donating a no longer needed computer, writing a check or just offering your expertise to one of our local organizations. Although membership in the Central Maryland Microcomputer Users Group (CMMUG) is not required to help, we encourage it to keep up to date with announcements of future workshops and other outreach program activities. CMMUG membership is $20 a year and inclues many more valuable benefits.
The Central Maryland Microcomputer Users Group (CMMUG), the oldest computer user group in Central Maryland, holds meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 pm at the Florence Bain Senior Center in Harpers Choice, Columbia, Maryland. At our meetings, speakers from major software and hardware companies present and demonstrate their latest programs and innovations. We also publish an award-winning monthly newsletter, BugBytes, that contains news and reviews of software and hardware, the dates of special events and programs, and news of special discounts on hardware and software offered to our user group members.
