The "official" or regular weekend of the Potomac River Convention is the first Sunday in April and the Saturday before (and in some years, the Friday evening before), except when Easter falls on this weekend (see below). Note that the weekend defined in this manner may not always equate with the "first (full) weekend in April," but it does in 2006.

Easter Sunday in 2006 will fall on April 16.

According to a policy set by Potomac River Convention organizers several years ago, if the regular weekend (defined above) coincides with Easter weekend, the Convention will be held on another nearby weekend to be decided on a case by case basis. The next years in which a conflict with Easter will occur are 2010 and 2015. In contrast, if the regular weekend falls on Palm Sunday, the Convention will take place as usual on its regular weekend. This will happen again in 2007, 2009, and 2012.
