Yea-huh!
Man, what a sweet weekend! Berkfest was filled with great music and wonderful
people.
The music:
Man I got to hear Yonder Mountain String Band, Tony Triscka Band, Acoustic
Junction, John Swain, Jiggle The Handle, Deep Banana Blackout, Karl Denison,
Los Lobos, Percy Hill, The Big Wu, Disco Biscuits and a whole bunch of others.
The Los stuff:
The early show was great! What a way to wake up with some live salmon in yer
face. No we didn't get an acoustic show, jeff showed up just prior to the
set. Set list in no order, nor is it complete.
Euphoria, Y'all Come, Dance on yer head,Other Side, Ain't gonna work
tomorrow, Wild Bill Jones, Zombie Jamboree [ may have been in late show], and
this smokin' Rocky Road with Tony triska and his sax player [ Mike I think]
The late show:
First off this place was a large closet! Actually if it was a little smaller
it could have been an oven! Man was it frickin hot! I must have sweated off
20 lbs just waiting between shows, actually 3 shows that night in upper
lodge. Set list and again in no order nor complete:
Carnival Time, Another Wat to turn, Doin' My Time, High 5,Green
Thing>Waterfall>Whiskey, 'Round the world with friends of mine, 4:20 polka,
BabyPlease come home, ended with Rise up. Sound was very high ended, tinny
sounding. I was like 3 ft from Vinces face, it was totally wild! Some dude, a
Funk Mob member, got up on stage, if ya want to call it that, stood on his
head and was dancing about right in front of Drew, what a hoot! The mandolin
player from YMSB helped out on a couple of the last songs and some dude came
out with a sax durring Rise up, if he would have waited another minute he
would have missed his big moment.
Poor Mark is having a bad year, now he has a brace on his left leg. I asked
him what was up but he started telling me about a time when a young lady
pushed him off a stage. So possibly durring break he had some type of
corrective surgy or something.
There was a happy gathering backstage just prior to the morning set with
jeff. The boys hung out all weekend. Well, I think all stayed. I saw Mark,
Drew and Vince on sunday. Vince came walking up behind me on sunday while DBB
was playing. He said he had to get a closer look see and zipped through the
crowd and was just boogiein' his "a" off, pics soon.
Lots of good folks there. Another good festival with Kim[phunkyme],
Annie[repeetofndr] and JJ[ a good ol FOC gal] we all set up camp to gether
and laughed and danced our butts off all weekend. Ty and some buds [also
FOCs] also were in camp. I got to meet Brennan and his lovely wife, whos name
escapes me now. Very nice folks. After the late show I went back to Brennan's
tent and we had a few brews and some bs. Good luck with the banjo. Brennan's
wife went to sleep so we headed to my camp, had some "Jersey Juice" and some
more bs. As it was getting late, or was it early, the days festivities came
to a close and I had a warm fuzzy feeling all over. Thanks to all who were
there., I had a great time.
I hope to have pics and tapes soon, I'll post and let y'all know.
CDUB & Scott got the tapes , thank you.
Scoobie, if ya read this far, e mail me.
take care y'all,
Bert
