Hey all!

I caught the boys at Black Hawk Farms, and got a chance to ask candid questions of Jeff
about the album. He is always the master of modesty, and I have never heard him toot his
own horn.

I asked him how he felt about the new album, due out today (I have a copy on hold), and he
said: "I am really pleased with this one!"

That is the most excited I have ever heard him about analyzing a project that he has been
apart of (and his discography is running in the area of 20 albums).

I can't wait!

There is good reason for Jeff to be proud of this one. He is
like many drummers in one on this project. Notice how he plays
softly with brushes on "Midnight Blues," adding just enough
bottom to free the mandolins from simply keeping time. By
contrast he creates a huge, driving beat for the song most likely
to be an instant rock radio hit, "On The Other Side." In between
he does just about everything else. :-)

And that's just one-fifth of it! Don't even get me started on
how strong Drew Emmitt's playing and singing is, Vince Herman's
massive energy and fine picking and singing, Tye's bass playing
(especially on "Another Way To Turn") and the fact that Marc Vann
stands next to Earl Scruggs and clearly belongs in such esteemed
company on "Five Alive."

And then.... :-) :-) :-)

I don't think Hank done it this way,

wow is there gonna be a sesh in Nashville tonight or what!!!

After one listen through of the new album I personally, and in my very own
little opinion, could safely say that this is by far and away the best album
effort the Salmon gang has put together. Amazing, amazing!!! I remember
saying that whoever is on the album for the Other Side was in for a run for
their money after seeing Karl Denson play some amazing solos in April.
Well, John Popper absolutely rips the most amazing harmonica solo on the
album version of the Other Side. Had me in tears the first time I
listened!!!

For any of you lazy LoSers who don't have it yet...quit your job, run down
the street, and buy this baby!!! It is fabulous!!!

Whoever out there is headed to the show tonight is in for a real treat!!!
Somehow I saw Salmon and Panic on three different stages this summer at the
same event. Red Rocks for the Panic shows there, High Sierra Music
Festival, Aspen Harmony Festival. All I wanted to see at those three
different occassions was Jon Bell of Panic come out and sing Nobody's Fault.
I now understand why they didn't play it. They were waiting for tonight...
So all you lucky dogs headed to the show tonight make sure and send me a fat
smile when JB walks out on stage as Nobod'ys Fault starts. You are catching
a real gem of the summer that this kid never got to see...

Fabulous album, jake gives a two thumbs up!!!

Take care all, we'll see y'all real soon now, ya hear!!!!

Subject: "The Nashville Sessions" -- Fayetteville Party & Nashville Show

The new album by Leftover Salmon came out today! With the CD-Listening
Party we had at Chester's Place (Fayetteville, AR), plus a few sessions
with friends at home, I've listened to the CD about 6 times today. I must
say, this is one incredible album! It's just so comfortable to listen to.
With a different guest musician on practically every song, "The Nashville
Sessions" is a very diverse and rootsy album, with an array of voices,
layers of acoustic and electric sound, and a blend of older and newer
instruments.

Up here in Fayetteville, we decided to throw our own little CD-Release
Party. Earlier today, Sound Warehouse on Dickson Street sold out of their
copies of the new Leftover Salmon album. We all went home and listened to
the album around 4 PM, then in the evening about 40 folks came out and
listened to the new album at Chester's Place. There was a prize drawing
sponsored by An Honest Tune magazine and Leftover Salmon -- we gave away 2
CD's and 2 pairs of tickets to see Leftover Salmon perform live acoustic in
Fayetteville, October 22 at Dave's On Dickson (won by: Clayton, and
Courtney). Thanks to all you Fayetteville folks that showed up! I wonder
what they're doin' when they do the boogie, and I wonder what I'm doing
here?

When Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon called me at 3 A.M. to report
details of their show in Nashville and to ask how the Fayetteville party
went, it was the icing on the cake of a great day of Leftover Salmon in my
life. It's not normal for me to get a call from the singer in one of my
favorite bands; but then, it's not unusual for Vince Herman to have that
kind of personal connection to the Leftover Salmon community and the
friendships that make it up. Calling from the tour bus, Vince was glowing
with the experiences of playing on-stage tonite with masters like Del
McCoury and many others ("Earl and Ronnie were just grinning, and Lucinda
and this rockabilly guitar player friend of hers..."). Vince talked about
walking through the audience and seeing line-dancing cowboys giving a
slightly funny look to spinnin' hippies, before everybody gave a shrug and
cut up the rug. Since I couldn't be in Nashville tonite, I was really
glad to be among friends enjoying the sounds of the new album in
Fayetteville. Vince's call was a real affirmation that this little
experiment with community is building some bridges and blurring some lines.
All these dreams are really coming true, somehow!

        love,daniel

Message to the Band and Randy Scruggs:
Congratulations on an incredible CD. Every song is great and that just
doesn't happen very often in the music business. The guest appearances are
marvelous and interspersed well with the band. The diversity in musical
styles is stunning, yet it all sounds like the salmon we know and love.
Let's hope Hollywood Records promotes this CD like it deserves to be
promoted because you guys have done your job extremely well! See ya in
Missoula in a couple of weeks. Gotta run because I've got to book my plane
ticket to Denver for New Years!

Hey all,
hope everyone is enjoying the new album. Every song is worthy of a great
review. Flux's solo on Breakin Thru, Vince and Waylon, Drew and Del, JB!,
Taj!, just can't beat this new album. Anyway, I was lucky enough to be at
the album release party and thougt I would give a few thoughts. #1, thanks
to the band for letting some of us get in. The room reminded me of my first
salmon show at the Wrocklage in Lexington KY back in 95. I stood about 5
feet in front of Drew and was able to catch all the excitement close up. I
loved it when Del came onstage and I could hear Drew and him going over
Midnight Blues. Del was saying I know I won't remember the words and Drew
said just sing it. That brought a laugh out of Del. Speaking of Del, I asked
him about the new album and here is what he had to say. He mentioned that
the album was great. He had listened to the whole thing that day. He said he
is a fan of Salmon because they bring all the young people closer to
bluegrass. He was proud of them because they had worked so hard to be where
they are at now. I am sure that most of you will agree that Del and Ronnie
McCoury need to play with Salmon more! Seeing the great Reese Wynans sit in
the whole set was great too. I love to hear them with some keys and what a
better player. John Cowan and Drew singing together right in front of me
couldn't be better. Good Woman's Love was great! John can sing like no
other. Let's see, what else, gotta love Jeff Coffin with Salmon. It seems
like they are a perfect match. Two things I will never forget about this
night. One, Del and Earl Scruggs greeting each other. Need you say more
about what these guys have done for bluegrass. Next was Ronnie McCoury's
face after the show when we did the Wake and Bake. He was so puzzled. I
could just see him saying to himself, were gonna rize up wake and bake
wondering what was going on. If you have read this far I am going to make a
DAT offer. I will do 4 including 2 digesters. Thanks to Phil Harris for
giving me the backup tape he ran. The board is OK, not the best. Still, that
is as good as it will get. The tape gets better after every song. You MUST
offer back to the list quickly as I will do all tapes the same way. Looking
forward to Oct 16th. Sean

I have to chime in and say that this CD is wonderful. I can't get over how
tight everything is on here. All the guests just make it even better and it
is nice to see that LoS can play backer to some of the biggest names in the
industry as well. I do wish there were some pictures in the booklet though.
Maybe some production shots. And thanks to the whole organization for making
sure some of us got to go to the party. I missed the acoustic set but the
electric set was real enjoyable. It was the tamest I have ever seen them but
also the tightest playing. They were all on the ball and all seemed to be
having a blast playing with all of their idols. And Coffin with LoS is a
match made in heaven. That boy can blow. And Jo-El was amazing. I believe
the blank in the setlist from Phil after On the Bayou was Jolie Bump(sp?). I
know you have heard it i.e. 6/28/94. All in all a fun show. I thought it was
going to be a two set affair but only one. Good thing though b/c I didn't
get back to Chatt until almost 4 anyway. Makes it hard to get up for class
at 9. I can't wait to hear some tapes of this show. I thought the sound was
amazing. And it was the smallest crowd I have ever seen for them. Very cozy.
So once again, thanks to the band and all of the guests for being so giving
and gracious.

P.S. Chattanooga music Schedule for the next couple of months is wonderful
9/24 Blue Rags (ragtime swing)
9/25 Blueground Undergrass
10/2 Kevn Kinney
10/5 Richard Thompson & David Wilcox
10/16 DEL McCOURY!!!
11/3 Leo Kottke!!!
11/18 Robert Earl Keene

Chattanooga never gets this many shows in this short of a time. Andthere are
many open dates. How about adding a Leftover Show at Sing Sing. Maybe the
same night as Del.

I've been out of town working for awhile so I apologize on the tardiness but feel I should
throw out my props for the Nashville Sessions. I have, like the rest of you, been really
looking foward to this new album from the boys ever since they first announced they were
heading to Nashvegas. When I first listened to the new digs I was plesantly suprised but
didn't think much about it. Now after listening to it a number of times, especially when the
sun is rising, I find something new and amazing on every song. This is the first album I
have ever heard in which a band (LoS) sounds so good on their release while at the same
time letting numerous guests put little twists and turns in and out of the record. So in a
way it is the brand spanking new salmon disc and a kinda guests play salmon tunes with
the boys playing backup (make sense????) Probably doesn't but the whole purpose of this
timewasting at work is to say this is, in my opinion, the best ef!
fort I've heard from the boys because they have painted a pretty broad spectrum with the
sessions and am looking foward to their return to the dirty south.(by the way any info on
halloween shows.....seems to be a gap in the dates).....Thanx fer the BW.....

I would say the association goes back further than Jeff's time with LoS -
back when Michael Wooten was the drummer. Heck, it was quite
common to see one or more Phish guys with them when they were in
VT, and still is. For that matter, it's common to see one or more Phish
guys with anybody that plays in VT. And guys, if you're reading this, the
