We visited Bangladesh in October 1997, but I'm only writing this up now, in May 1999. Aingeal had to go there, and I was able to join her for a week after she'd finished her work. Dhaka, the capital, is a big city, but with a relaxed, easy-going feel to it, for the tourist. People are very friendly. Like Nepal, it was reminiscent of India in some ways, but also very, very different, starting with the sense of being in a Moslem state. It's also much poorer.
Another real difference was the traffic. Unlike India, Bangladesh doesn't make cars, and there were a lot more autorickshaws and bicycle rickshaws, like this one, on the roads. The rickshaws, of all types, are very elaborately decorated, even more than in Calcutta I thought, and really brighted up traffic.
I didn't finish scanning in these pictures, and now they're packed. Looking over them, there are other shots that I'd like to include, so perhaps I'll expand this section later, but for now all the photos are on the high seas.
