We hired a car and headed down the beach from Cox's Bazaar, about an hour's drive, to a spot where the beach is particularly wide (very hard to photograph). We did a bit of swimming, since the nearest people seemed to be at the edge of the beach -- or about a mile away, I'd say. It was interesting to see, but the drive there & back was more interesting.
All along the coast, little farms like this one are nestled between the beach and bluffs that come down quite close to the shore. There were no real villages -- there didn't seem to be enough of a concentration of people, the farm land was so spread out. This picture, unlike the others, really seems to have captured the incredible lush green there.
There were also a lot of people trotting up the beach, heading north with bundles of firewood suspended from carry-poles on their shoulders. The porters were of all ages, from distressingly young children to old women, sometimes it looked like a whole family would be in on the business.
