This is a detail of the carvings mentioned in the last picture. The carvings are big, compared to the fine work you might see in marble in other places, but remember that they're done in granite, so the size was necessary to get any reasonable detail. On this structure alone were hundreds, maybe thousands, of carvings like this one, or perhaps it's more accurate to say it was one large carvings, spread over many stone bricks around the outside of the building.
