The Kaliadeh Palace is about a half an hour out of town, and was built in the 1400s. Restored by the Scindias in the early 20th century, it is again in decay, the lawn in front of the big house now used to graze cattle.
The palace sits on the loop of a river, and a channel was cut, to make a large island. In the channel, a cunning arrangement of pools and waterways was built, with several pavilions, for enterainment and relaxation. Should the sun become too strong even for that, caves were dug into the far bank, but are now half submerged.
